The US expects that Iran will carry out strikes against multiple targets inside Israel in the coming days and is prepared to help intercept any weapons launched at its ally, sources tell CNN, as the Biden administration is on high alert for what could be the eruption of a significantly volatile and unpredictable period in the Middle East.
President Joe Biden on Friday predicted that Iran’s attacks were coming “sooner than later” and sought to issue a stern public warning once again, saying that his message to Tehran was: “Don’t.”
The beginning of a state-on-state conflict between Iran and Israel would mark a severe escalation in the region – a scenario that the US has hoped to avoid since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October.
Should Christians Worry?
Over the last few years, the relationship between Israel and Iran has been fraught with tension, with both countries engaging in hostile rhetoric and actions. This has led to concerns among many observers about the possibility of a full-blown conflict erupting in the Middle East, which could have far-reaching and devastating consequences.
For Christians, these developments often raise questions about their significance in the context of biblical prophecy and the end times. Many believers wonder what these tensions might mean regarding the fulfillment of biblical prophecies, such as those found in the books of Daniel and Revelation.

The Olivet Discourse: Jesus’ Words on the End Times

Wars and Rumors of Wars
In this passage, Jesus shares His wisdom with His disciples about the inevitability of wars and rumors of wars. He sensitizes them to the fact that they will hear about wars breaking out in different parts of the world and rumors of potential conflicts. However, He advises them not to be distressed by such news but to remain tranquil and composed. He explains to them that these events are necessary but do not signify the world’s end. In other words, these occurrences should not be misconstrued as signs of the end of the world but as events that must come to pass.
In this passage, Jesus acknowledges that wars and rumors of wars will continue recurring throughout human history, especially leading up to the end times. Despite the potential for these events to cause fear and panic, Jesus assures us that they serve a greater purpose as signs pointing to the broader tapestry of God’s unfolding plan for humanity. As such, we can take comfort in knowing that even in times of chaos and uncertainty, God’s plan is ultimately in control, and these events are part of a larger picture that is still unfolding.
Natural Disasters and Tribulations
Jesus gave a detailed account of the signs that would appear before His return. In addition to wars, He also mentioned famines, pestilences, and earthquakes. He further stated that nations will rise against nations and kingdoms against kingdoms. The world will also experience famines and earthquakes in various places. These signs are intended to prepare humanity for the second coming of Christ and to remind us of the importance of living a life of faith, hope, and love.
Once again, Jesus emphasizes that these occurrences are not causes for alarm but indicators that the end times are drawing near. They are part of the birth pangs of a new era that will culminate in His glorious return.
Do Not Be Alarmed: Trusting in God’s Sovereignty
Throughout the Olivet Discourse, Jesus repeatedly urges His disciples not to be alarmed or anxious about these signs. Instead, He encourages them to trust God’s sovereignty and remain steadfast in their faith.
Jesus assures His followers, “See, I have told you ahead of time” (Matthew 24:25, NIV). By forewarning His disciples about these events, Jesus equips them with the knowledge and assurance they need to navigate the challenges of the end times with confidence and hope.
The Imminence of Christ’s Return
While Jesus provides signs to watch for, He also emphasizes that no one knows the exact timing of His return. He states, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Matthew 24:36, NIV).
This statement underscores the importance of anticipating Christ’s return each day rather than becoming preoccupied with speculating about the timing of end-time events. Christians are called to be vigilant, prayerful, and faithful, trusting that God’s purposes will ultimately be fulfilled in His perfect timing.
